Workshop Description:

Using the Creative Process to Explore New Mirror Systems and Images

Any skill level can take this class. The class will be in 4 steps; exploring concepts and materials, letting the ideas rest, making room/time for the “Aha” and then doing a mockup of our ideas. As a class you will make a shift from the familiar knowing, logical and analytical mindset to a realm of forms, shapes, colors, feelings, motion and sound. In this mode of receiving and expressing you will explore many possibilities with mirrors and images. There won’t be an actual scope, mirror system or image that you will be able to take home but the artist will put together a CD with photos of the class designs, sketches, notes and other related information.

The classes are in two 4 hour sessions; one class Friday and Saturday 1 – 5 and one class Monday and Tuesday 1 – 5. All mirror, cutting supplies and a copy of “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards will be provided.

Workshop Description:

Starting with a colorful cylindrical glass tube, create a ball-bearing turning end, sidelight scope. We will assemble the turing mechanism and mirror system (a two-mirror 7 point star) and have the option of using a glass magnifier to enhance and enlarge the interior image (those over 40 will likely want this). We will also have the opportunity for lampworking dichroic glass for more detail in the sidelit chamber. The result is a smooth and sparkly round glass exterior, an efforless turning end and spectacular interior imagery.

Brass 12″ X 1 1/2″ handheld with 2 fused wheels edged in a decorative brass cane. You will Fuse wheels, assemble 2 mirror 6 point mirror system and assemble scope. Wheels will be finished by the artist for pick up in the late AM.
